Today marks one year without Eric. In his honor, we thought it'd be nice to finally share with you something that we've been working on for months. The last complete song Eric wrote was something really special in our eyes, with lyrics written as a hopeful message to his daughter Ella and with music composed as an ambitious orchestral movement at times. It was a song Eric was rightfully extremely proud of, and in the weeks before his passing, we'd finally worked out a full band arrangement that would allow us to perform it live at our next show. In fact, it was the last song we played together mere hours before he passed. With the help of his old friend and fellow musician and producer Stephen Piemonte, we were able to retrieve the master tracks of Eric's demo recording of the song and record and mix our full band arrangement around Eric's vocals and guitar. Ben even got a chance to record drums before he moved. Long story short, here's Eric's final musical gift to the world (and, more importantly, his daughter) in the form in which we'd hoped to one day share it with you live. We hope you'll find it as comforting as we do.
It pains us to have to say this, but Ben is leaving the band to move to Vancouver for bigger, better, more organic and bohemian things. He's been with us since the beginning, over four years ago, and he continues to humble us with his songwriting, as if his talent for drumming and plain ol' friendship weren't enough. We've still got a couple weeks left with him, and we're working on something special that we hope to be able to share with you soon. Thank you to everyone who helped to send him off at his final show with us at Bourbon & Branch last week. His move to the 'couv is bittersweet...We're going to miss him badly, but we're beyond grateful for the music we made together and, more importantly, for the friendship born out of it. Here are some videos of his farewell performance. Send him some love! Come join us Saturday, April 22 for a night paying tribute to Eric, enjoying live music, and lending a helping hand. For $30, you'll get unlimited food, domestic beer, and wine from 6 pm to 10 pm. The Not Fur Longs and Human Sounds are joining us on stage, and there will be auctions and raffles a plenty. Come celebrate the life of an awesome man, and help support his incredible family at the same time. We hope to see you there!
Hey sk8er bois and grrrls, our album Everything is now available for streaming and download on Spotify, iTunes, CDBaby, and Bandcamp. Check it out. Or say "c u l8r boi". Either is fine by us.
Here's another new one off our album 'Everything'. One local 8-year-old raved in his review of it, "Brian should sing more manly like a rock singer." Not too shabby!
Here’s a new tune from our album ‘Everything’, available January 6th. It’s a special one to us. Eric wrote the bass lines, we filled in the rest during our first jam with them, and what you hear on this final track is more or less what we came up with together that night...the truest representation of our sound as a band in that moment and now a sort of guidepost for our songwriting moving forward. We’d love for you to give it a listen.
It's an album. For you. By us. Our first. Finally.
On Friday, January 6, come grab a copy at our show at Boot & Saddle.
This is our only recording of the full band performing Eric's last complete song. It's a very early, rough rendition, but we wanted to get it out there. He wrote it about his daughter Ella, and it turned into something special, we think. Eric's solo demo version, with clear lyrics and beautiful instrumentation, can be listened to here. |
